 Who Can Foster In Sussex?

Our Foster Carers come from all backgrounds and bring different skills and experiences to fostering

We have a fantastic team of Foster Carers in Sussex who are supported by our local team based at our Kent office. Our Foster Parents in Sussex are a group of fabulously varied people, there is no ‘perfect’ person we look for. There are many misconceptions around becoming a Foster Carer. The truth is, you can foster a child or young person whether you're married or single, no matter your race, religion, gender or sexuality. Whether you are a homeowner or renting, have children of your own or no experience at all! The only thing you need to be considered to start your fostering journey is, to be over the age of 25, have a spare bedroom and the space in your heart to love a foster child. Most children in care lack the positive family experience that most of their peers would have, but all it takes is one person, a person like you, to make a difference.

Who Needs Fostering In Sussex?

Every child in care has a different past, but they all need a caring adult to help them change their future.

Fostering a child or young person is a unique and truly wonderful experience. You could provide the joy of new experiences to a child, a child who may never have done even the simplest of things, such as going to the beach. There are many reasons why a child or young person might come into care. Whether it be illness within the family, a family breakdown, drug or alcohol abuse in the home, or sadly due to physical, emotional or physical abuse and neglect. It is this reason that children and young people in care sometimes present challenging behaviour. However, you will receive free comprehensive and professional training and 24/7 support from our team of experienced Social Workers, so you will never have to face anything alone. With your care and guidance, these children will receive a second chance in life.

What Happens Next?

Congratulations! You have registered your interest to foster in Sussex! Someone from our local office in Kent will be in touch with you very soon.
We will probably ask you a couple of questions in our introductory call, because we want to get to know you and find out why you want to foster! It is also an opportunity for you to ask any initial questions you may have about fostering, the application process or the company.
Following this, one of our lovely social workers will be in touch with you to book an initial visit, where they will meet you at your home to have a natter and ask you some more in depth questions (don't worry, they are a very friendly bunch!) While this is an opportunity for our agency to access your suitability to be a foster parent, it is also important for you to get a feel for us and whether we are the right agency for you- it works both ways!
If you decide to apply, you will be appointed an assessor who will conduct your application. A member of our admin team will also be in touch to provide you with the relevant resources and documents and offer you support throughout the assessment.
You can find more information about the assessment process below:
